The Great Resignation, the pandemic, and recent campus unrest have brought significant challenges to the education sector over the past few years. Institutions have had to adapt swiftly to remote learning, diversify their programming, and justify their premium value. As education leaders navigate this evolving landscape, here are some important considerations:

Rethink Value

The return on investment for higher-ed degrees is under scrutiny due to declining enrollment, competitive acceptance rates, and a shifting job market that redefines what’s important. This situation necessitates a reassessment of the value proposition of undergraduate degrees and prestigious institutions while also exploring new revenue streams through continuous learning, alternative degrees, and other initiatives.

User-centric wayfinding

With such a high barrier to entry for students, clarity and focus are essential to finding the right program that meets their busy lives and aspirations. Ensuring they can see the faculty that will be most inspiring or know what areas of thought leadership the school has and how that will help them get to where they need to go. In addition to clarifying core user needs, expanding and augmenting the digital experience will be more critical to redefining education’s business model online.

Define a more coordinated framework

The inherent silos that exist across multiple campuses, departments, and divisions create duplicative efforts, inefficient workflows, overly complex systems, and a lack of coordination. During the pandemic, these silos were exaggerated, and the need for a more coordinated and connected effort across multiple administrators through an intuitive, central system was essential to future agility.
